Hey Oppo, I am just wondering if anyone has had experience with the General Tire G-Max AS 05. I am in need of some new tires before winter. I currently have Continental extreme contract DWS’s on my Mazda 6 now. The problem is I dont really want to spend another $850 to get them again. I can get the Generals for around $700 mounted and balanced. Mazda 6's have a real goofy tire size so they are usually pretty expensive. I don’t want to get the real cheap ones but I don’ t need the most expensive ones either.

I have experience with GMAX AS03's. Great tire for all seasons if you’re just dealing with PNW weather. Slush, rain and dry

What size? I assumed OEM 17". These are good. should be less than $700 mounted and balanced. I filtered by High performance and Ultra High performance All seasons
Potenzas 980sare new so no reviews here. Good performance but some have reported higher road noise on the older versions.
DWS 06 are my current favorite. I had DWSs previously on my E90 and I loved them
I’ll also tell you not to buy- THESE HANCROOKS. TERRIBLE!

Same as mine - 225/45R19.

If you like the DWS, the G-Max AS-05 is its newer, bargain brand cousin.
The BFG Comp-2 A/S is another good/cheap sporty all-season tire, but at least in the 225/45-19 size that Tire Rack lists for your car, it’s actually the same price as the Conti DWS 06 and new Bridgestone RE980AS.

I had those Generals on my E46 before I sold it. I liked them, and am currently looking at them when my crappy Dunlops need replaced in two years.

They are P225/45R19 so they are 19 inch rims not 17. Which makes a big difference with the price so continentals are 184 per tire on tirerack

Ouch! Price increased by $30 per tire. But all 3- BF Goodrich, Potenza 980 and DWS 06 are same price $184.99. Set of 4 is $739. Free shipping.

I live in South D akota so we get quite a bit of heavy snow. The roads are usually plowed pretty quickly so i am not very worried about the snow .

Shouldn’t you still have winters for ice/cold temps?
It never gets that cold here, maybe -15c max at night

ya it is pretty ridiculous. I am defaintly going also buy the road hazard plan with them. With tire being low profile if you hit a big bump you can blow the tire out, which did happen to me.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

225/45-19 is expensive as fuck no matter what
What you should do is just get another set of smaller wheels (you can downsize all the way to 16 inch). The tires will be MUCH cheaper, plus you will get a better ride. No reason for expensive shitty-riding no-profile tires in a standard midsize car. Every
car doesn’t have to be a donk. I mean come on, they don’t even MAKE a MS6 anymore!
You can get a whole new set of wheels and tires for $900 or so, already mounted and balanced and delivered to your door.
I went on Tire Rack and made a 16-in tire/wheel package of the Radius W102 wheels and Vredestein Quatrac 5 tires in the size 225/60-16. About $975 ready to go.
The new wheels will pay for themselves the next time you buy tires. Actually, if you sell your OE
dubs
wheels, the new wheels will have already paid for themselves immediately. Even if you sell them at a lowball price of $200 for the set.
You can
even buy a fifth wheel/tire to use as a full-size spare. Fuck those stupid donuts and cans that don’t usually work and aren’t TPMS-safe even though it says so on the can. FUCK THAT!
If you need all-season tires and you care about snow and can’t use a separate set of winter tires, consider an all-season
with the 3-peak sign such as the Vredestein Quatrac 5, Nokian WRG4, Toyo Celsius, or the Goodyear Weatherready. Vredestein was the first company to make such a tire, with the original Quatrac from 25 years ago.
Enjoy your better ride on stronger tires that will only cost $400 a set :o)

Consider an all-season that has the 3-peak sign. Sometimes you will see them referred to as “all weather” tires. The Nokian WRG4 is the most well-known tire of this category
but
not the only one.

Good grip on dry, I guess. terrible grip when wet. Noisy. Barely 22K miles and the tire’s down to 4/3 2 already (It’s got 50K tread waranty, my ass). Probably the worst tire I have ever had- came new installed by the dealer when I bought my current CPO car. And I have run Continentals, Bridgestones, Goodyears UHP all seasons before.
Disclaimer: 328hp/269Lb-ft rwd driven moderately aggresive mostly in suburban roads could contribute. Check the reviews on Tirerack it’s decent never up to the levels of the big players.

I’ve used General tire brand tires before and had pretty good experiences with them. I have altimax arctics for my winters. I’ve used their summers before and like them too.

I have a similar predicament needed tires for a 2015 Mazda6. I have purchased the OE Dunlops previously, but they're very expensive. I will probably look at Hankooks as I've had good luck with them in the past, but have still not decided.
